The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, has met in New York today with the High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Miguel Angel Moratinos. The interlocutors discussed the activities of the initiative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations whose member Serbia has been since 2007. The initiative has 156 members and among them countries and international organizations. Selaković introduced the High Representative to the situation in the Western Balkans region as well as the positive agenda of Serbia and the “Open Balkan” intiative aimed at the economic growth of the entire region. The Serbian Foreign Minister informed Moratinos on economic success of Serbia over the past seven years emphasizing that it gave the opportunity to Serbia to help its friends in the region, Africa and Middle East more, in the form of donations of 1.5 million doses of coronavirus vaccine. Having exchanged the information on the European path of Serbia, Selaković highlighted that Serbia’s EU membership is the main strategic foreign-policy goal of Serbia, which is committed to reform processes in all areas. Selaković thanked the former Spanish Foreign Minister for his personal contribution to strengthening of bilateral relations of our two countries and the fact that he had been and remained one of the most consistent advocates for the reception of Serbia to full EU membership. The interlocutors exchanged the opinions on the current situation in K&M and emphasized the importance of the dialog and preservation of the regional peace and stability. Minister Selaković added that Morations had given great contribution to the formation of Spain’s attitude with regards to unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo, which was even nowadays the characteristics of Spain’s policy. Selaković invited Moratinos to visit Belgrade, where he is an honorary citizen, since 2009 owing to his contributions to the affirmation of Belgrade, contribution to the development of cooperation and promotion of mutual relations of Serbia and Spain.
